Choosing the best games of the year is not an easy task. ForMaxFun annually publishes video game ratings. In this review, we decided to name the best games of recent years based on user reviews and voting, the results of which we present to your attention.
10. Dark Souls
Release date: 2011
Platform: PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PS4, XOne
The top ten games of the decade open with a project that is extremely demanding of the player's skills.
Only a person with the reaction of a mongoose can call the battles in Dark Souls easy. But this is what many players like about the project, wanting to strain all their strength, getting real pleasure from defeating a difficult enemy.
During the gameplay, the player will have to explore the world, find items important for the development of the plot and die over and over again, honing their skills and learning from their own mistakes.
The Souls series' dark, bloody, and brutal style draws much of its inspiration from the Berserk manga, which features numerous visual references.
9. Grand Theft Auto V
Release date: 2013
Platform: PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One
One of the best games of the past 10 years is set in Los Santos, a sun-drenched metropolis full of entertainment and temptation. For the first time in the history of the Grand Theft Auto series, players are given characters with special skills that increase their chances of survival and mission success:
- Franklin is a con man who is looking for material opportunities and serious money. He excels at difficult driving.
- Michael, a former professional robber whose retirement was less rosy than he thought. His talent is slowing down time, which comes in handy during a shooting.
- Trevor is a former military pilot with fits of rage, driven by the desire to hit the jackpot. These fits make Trevor a real berserker, capable of inflicting enormous damage on the enemy.
The trio embark on daring and dangerous thefts that could set them up for life.
8. God of War
Release date: 2018
Platform: PlayStation 4
With Kratos and his vengeance on the gods of Olympus far behind him, it's now the turn of the characters from Norse mythology. It's in the harsh, unforgiving world where the Norse gods walked the earth that Kratos must fight to survive... and teach his son to do the same.
Fulfilling the last will of his wife, Kratos and his son, and the player along with them, will set off on a journey through wild forests, mountains and other areas inhabited by countless hordes of magical creatures and monsters.
7. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Release date: 2011
Platform: PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360
The next chapter in the Elder Scrolls saga from Bethesda Game Studios takes players into an open fantasy world of dragons and magic.
The non-linear nature of the game, the lack of a plot frame, and the huge number of skills, riddles, and Easter eggs make this virtual world feel huge, alive, and complete.
6. Bloodborne
Release date: 2015
Platform: PlayStation 4
Bloody themes, gothic style and monsters are the main components of this Japanese exclusive Action/RPG, released for the best gaming console (at least until the PC5).
This game doesn't lead the player by the hand, explaining the plot directly. If you want to know what's what, go ahead - read the descriptions of objects, explore the locations and kill the bosses! And the battles here are fast, dynamic, the locations are well-designed and wandering around them is a pleasure.
And it’s not surprising, because the game design work was supervised by Hidetaki Miyazaki, known to gamers for such projects as Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and the Dark Souls series.
5. Mass Effect 2
Release date: 2010
Platform: PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360
The Mass Effect trilogy gave science fiction fans a vast universe filled with dangerous alien life forms and mysterious uncharted planets.
The main character, Captain Shepard, has already left his mark on the space scene in the confrontation with the Reapers. In the second part, he will face new challenges and even greater dangers in clashes with the mysterious insectoid race of Collectors.
Incidentally, Mass Effect owes its birth to Star Wars. After Knights of the Old Republic, Bioware wanted more creative freedom and abandoned plans for a new game about a galaxy far, far away in favor of a story about Captain Shepard and his crew.
4. Red Dead Redemption 2
Release date: 2018
Platform: Xbox One, PlayStation 4
The game is famous for its vast and atmospheric world. The events take place in America in 1899, when the era of the Wild West was coming to an end.
Arthur Morgan, one of the Van der Linde gang, is forced to flee with his accomplices, with federal agents and the best bounty hunter in the country hot on his heels.
Arthur will make his way through the American outback, hunting, racing, shooting, and other exciting things to survive. And he will make a choice between his own ideals and loyalty to those who once sheltered him.
3. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
Release date: 2015
Platform: PC, Xbox One
The Witcher series has taught us not only how to kill monsters, choose the lesser evil, and play gwent, but also what a quality game adaptation of the story of Geralt of Rivia should be like.
And "Wild Hunt" is the best part of all three games, it is very beautiful, pleases with well-thought-out missions and an unusual soundtrack, gives players a lot of freedom of choice in the hero's actions, and is full of charismatic characters who are not afraid to swear. And you will hardly be surprised that Geralt is among the best game heroes of all time.
2. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Release date: 2017
Platform: Wii U, Switch
A breath of fresh air compared to the Zelda games we are used to, Breath of the Wild is an open-world action-adventure game that takes players on a journey through fields, forests, and mountain peaks. Explore the wilds of Hyrule at your own pace and in whatever order you like.
Breath of the Wild also makes it easy to find recipes that you can use to make something tasty in the real world. And it's the first Zelda game to explain why Link doesn't talk.
1. The Last of Us / The Last of Us Remastered
Release date: 2014
Platform: PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4
Twenty years have passed since the pandemic that wiped out the civilization we knew. Those lucky enough not to be infected by the strange fungus are killing each other for food and weapons.
And through this world of violence and panic travels Joel, a smuggler and mercenary who is hired to transport a fourteen-year-old girl, Ellie, from the quarantine zone to the outside world. But what begins as a simple job for Joel quickly turns into the most dangerous adventure of his life.
The Last of Us topped the list of the best games of the decade not only on Metacritic, but also according to Sony's audience poll. The top 10 also included many games that were voted for on Metacritic, such as The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Grand Theft Auto V, Bloodborne, and God of War.
