The designer of this "architectural madness" was Martin Yorkman, and the project was implemented by the English company Atkins.
Shimao Shenkeng Hotel is one of the world's top ten architectural wonders, and deservedly so. It's not every day that you see an 18-story building that goes 88 meters underground. However, two floors are above ground level, while the other 16 are below.
The hotel's amazing feature is the 80-meter glass waterfall wall that divides the building into two parts. Through it, you can see the rocks opposite, but turned 180 degrees, with the naked eye.
5. International Conference Center
The striking alien-like building was designed by Australian architectural firm Coop Himmelb(l)au. The creators believe that its urban appearance reflects Dalian’s promising modern future and its traditions of trade, industry and tourism.
Despite its name, the center includes not only conference halls, but also a theater, a 1,600-seat opera house and an exhibition center.

1. Molecular Institute "La Trobe"
The structure of this unusual-looking building was designed by Australian company Lyons Architects. The building is built in a hexagonal shape and has six floors. Its walls are made of precast reinforced concrete, and the upper and lower windows, reminiscent of honeycombs, help to improve the penetration of sunlight into the premises.
This cellular structure-like facade was not chosen by the architects by chance. It symbolizes the idea to which all the institute's activities are dedicated.
