For children, New Year is not just a change from one year to another! Already from mid-December, the youngest ones begin to wait for a fairy tale and write letters to Santa Claus, and prepare for the school masquerade ball! This is a difficult time for parents whose children attend kindergarten or school. Preparation for the matinee must be done with all responsibility.
U girls more choice and less hassle, the dress decides everything, it is usually complemented by a crown or glitter and voila: snowflakes, Snow Queens, princesses are ready! But with boys things are more complicated. Boys are more demanding, and you need to choose a costume, both for his taste and to earn the respect of his peers. Not all parents can devote enough time to preparation, so they rent or buy ready-made costumes.
With this option, you will probably meet the same bears and bunnies at the party. But renting them is problematic because the size of the costume you like may not fit, or you will have to pay for the rental a month before the celebration.
But if you have time and desire, then it is quite possible to make a suit for a boy with your own hands. In such an outfit, the baby will feel comfortable, because all the measurements will be from him and no one else will have such a suit. Do not worry that it will take a lot of time and effort, because with a master class everything is easy and simple to repeat. Just a couple of evenings will help you create a unique New Year's costume for a boy.
1. Dragon
Perhaps your little one will like the role of a fire-breathing dragon. The main features of such a costume are: spikes, wings and a long tail. The color is usually green.
For the dragon costume you will need to find: light and dark green fleece fabric (about 1.5 meters of each color), orange fabric (a piece about 0.5 meters long), Velcro (20-25 cm), matching threads, needles, pins, scissors, and paper for making a pattern.
Making a costume
- 1. To make the work on the patterns easier, you can take a ready-made boy's blouse, lay it out on a sheet of paper and outline it along the outer lines together with the sleeves. All that's left is to draw the dragon's wing.
- 2. Place the paper pattern on a folded dark and light fleece, pin it together. Cut out the dragon's cloak, leaving the tail as long as possible.
- 3. Place the sweater with the hood folded across on paper. Outline the outline and also cut out two pieces of dark and light fleece.
- 4. Fasten the wing blanks with pins. On the fleece, which is lighter, draw the outline of the dragon's skeleton as in the photo.
- 5. Stitch along these lines and along the edge of the entire product. Cut out pieces of light fleece that are inside the stitches.
- 6. Draw 8 triangles on the orange fabric and cut them out.
- 7. Sew two triangles on the tip of each wing and tail.
- 8. Sew the remaining pieces together and lay them out on the hood in a jagged pattern. Stitch between the light parts of the fleece, so that when turned inside out they will be on the outside.
- 9. Sew the dark fleece pieces together and stitch them to the jagged piece. Stitch the resulting helmet along the edge. Attach Velcro to the edges.
- 10. Attach the hood to the cloak with wings.
- 11. At the ends of the wings, measure out a part the size of the palm and cut through the inner layer, creating a pocket for the hand.
The dragon is ready!
2. Gray wolf
The image of a gray evil wolf is often chosen by boys for the New Year's holiday. The simplest costume for which you do not need patterns and measurements, since a ready-made gray suit or sweatshirt is used as a basis.
For the Gray Wolf costume you will need: a soft sweatshirt and long pants or gray pajamas, a piece of light and dark gray felt, as well as white and black felt, scissors, needles, thread, pins, a pencil or chalk, scissors, a piece of cardboard, elastic or tape, synthetic padding.
Making a costume
- 1. Place a piece of felt on a sweatshirt or pajama top and cut out an oval to size, along the edge of which make random-shaped teeth. Sew the oval to the top, first securing it with pins so that it does not shift while you work.
- 2. Take the pants from the suit and apply the felt to them. You need to cut out a strip 8-10 centimeters wide for each leg, and the length is according to the size of the clothes. In the same way, with scissors, cut out random teeth that imitate wolf fur and sew them to the pants.
- 3. Cut four squares from dark felt, trim the corners and decorate with the same denticles as the previous parts. These will be patches for the knees and elbows.
- 4. For the wolf's tail, cut two rectangles 15 centimeters wide and 40 centimeters long from gray felt. From dark gray felt, cut a piece 10 by 30 centimeters and also process the edges as in the previous parts. From white felt, cut 2 identical pieces for the tip of the tail.
- 5. Now you need to take the pieces that were cut for the tail and place the tail blank on one of them, and the dark gray blank on the other as in the photo. Sew the parts, leaving an opening for filling with padding polyester. Sew the finished tail and attach it to the wolf's pants.
After that, make a mask. Cut a template out of cardboard as in the photo. Then apply gray felt to it and cut out two patterns. Mark and cut out holes for the eyes. Cut the nose out of dark felt, and the nose out of white. Sew all the details to the mask. Shade the tip of the nose with black felt. Sew the two parts of the mask together, and sew an elastic band on the sides for fastening. The Gray Wolf costume is ready!
3. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
The main characters of this cartoon series have probably become favorite heroes of more than one generation of boys. The superhero costume will not take much time to make, and does not require much effort or expensive materials. In a couple of evenings, any mother or grandmother can cope with the task.
For the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle costume you will need: plain green children's pajamas, yellow flannel, acrylic paints, needles, pencil or chalk, pins, thread, brown ribbon, oval baking dish (made of foil), Velcro, glue gun, a piece of embossed cardboard, a piece of thick cardboard, scissors, filler (holofiber or synthetic padding), a piece of fabric in red, orange, purple or blue (depending on which cartoon character the boy likes best). Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello and Michelangelo wore headbands of different colors.
Making a costume
- 1. Lay out the base of the costume - pajamas on the table. It should consist of pants and a long-sleeved sweater. Cut out a yellow circle for the front of the sweater, which will take up almost the entire area.
- 2. Place the yellow fabric circle on the sweater and stitch it crosswise (one line in the center along, two crosswise). Stuff the synthetic padding into the pockets that you got. Now stitch the blank in a circle and the relief belly of the ninja turtle is ready.
- 3. Depending on the character you decide to make, take fabric of the corresponding color for the leg and eye bandages. Cut it into strips: for the arms and legs - 6 strips 6 cm wide, the width of the boy's leg circumference. The eye bandage should be 10 cm wide, the length should be enough to cover the head. Additionally, leave loose ends so that you can tie it without any problems.
- 4. The strips for the legs and arms need to be folded in half and sewn at the level of the knees, elbows and wrists.
- 5. Make slits for the eyes on the headband.
- 6. Paint the baking pan brown with acrylic paints - this will be the shell.
- 7. To attach the shell, you will need a thick brown tape. Cut two holes in the sides of the mold and pull the tape through as shown in the picture.
- 8. To securely fasten the shell, attach the Velcro. Attach one half of the fastener to the shell, and it is better to sew the other half to the T-shirt. Then you can be sure that the boy will not lose the shell even if he actively runs in the round dances.
- 9. Now you need to make a buckle with the hero's letter. To do this, you need to cut a circle with a diameter of 7 centimeters from embossed cardboard. Cut such a circle from thick cardboard and glue both blanks together.
- 10. Cut out the first letter of the hero’s name from embossed cardboard and glue it onto the buckle.
- 11. Cut two pieces of tape and bend them into a corner. Attach the finished buckle with the letter to half of the belt with a glue gun, and glue half of the Velcro fastener on top. Attach the second part of the fastener to the second half of the belt. The boy's costume is ready! You can complement the image of a cartoon character with weapons from a toy store.
4. Teddy Bear
Even the smallest baby will look cute in the image of a forest teddy bear. Such a costume will stand out among the traditional ones - a mask, shorts and a jacket. One evening will be enough to make such a bear. 80% outfit will be ready if you find a ready-made brown fleece jacket. And otherwise you need:
- brown sweater with a hood;
- fleece fabric in brown and beige colors;
- synthetic padding or other filler;
- sewing threads to match the color of the fabric;
- pins;
- paper;
- a simple pencil or chalk;
- scissors.
Making a costume
- 1. Cut a circle out of light fleece, 3-4 centimeters narrower than the width of the sweater when buttoned. For convenience, you can use a round object as a template - a lid or baking pan.
- 2. Pin the circle to the sweater and stitch it with a sewing machine using a zigzag stitch. If you don't have a sewing machine, you can sew it by hand. To make the bear's belly more voluminous, put some filler under the fleece.
- 3. Draw the templates of the bear's ears on paper. You need to create two samples, different in size, for the inner part of the ears. Cut out the details from dark and light fleece according to the blanks. There should be 4 large templates to make them voluminous.
- 4. Sew the light parts onto the dark fleece parts. Place the dark pieces face-to-face and sew them together, leaving the bottom unsewn. Turn inside out and fill with padding polyester. Sew the ears.
- 5. Symmetrically mark the places for the ears on the hood and make slits. Place the ear there and sew it on.
- 6. Now you can wear pants or tights with shorts with such a blouse. You can make an additional accessory for the bear cub - a basket with berries and mushrooms.
5. Harry Potter
The heroes of J.K. Rowling's fairy tales leave neither adults nor children indifferent, so it is unlikely that your little one will refuse to be the main wizard at the New Year's party. You don't need much for this costume, just a cloak and a tie in the Gryffindor colors, and glasses.
For the Harry Potter costume you will need: black and red fabric for sewing the robe, threads to match, needles, pins, scissors, a white shirt and dark trousers, a sweater or turtleneck of gray color, a red tie, yellow oracal (self-adhesive film), a glue gun, cardboard, wire, pliers, hardening plastic, a wooden stick, acrylic paint.
Making a costume
1. The most difficult and time-consuming part is sewing the wizard's robe. Print and transfer the pattern to paper, enlarging it to the required dimensions. For the cloak, you need to cut out two pieces from black fabric for the front, back, sleeves and hood. Cut out similar pieces from red fabric.
2. Fasten the mantle pieces together with a basting stitch. You will get two cloaks, red and black, now join them together, having ironed all the seams and edges beforehand. Stitch the seams and join both cloaks together along the edge.
3. The Giffindor uniform consists of a white shirt and dark trousers (found in any schoolchild's wardrobe). Wear a grey V-neck pullover on top. If you don't have one, you can make such a cutout on the neck of any turtleneck.
4. If you don’t have a ready-made tie of this color, you can take any red one and sew yellow fabric onto it in stripes.
5. You can either order a ready-made Gryffindor emblem or download a drawing from the Internet and color it. Stick it on cardboard and attach it to the robe with a glue gun. The costume for the home wizard is ready.
Accessories for the little wizard!
6. Cut the copper wire into pieces, make two circles, temples and a piece for the bridge of the nose. Solder the parts, cover the solder areas and the behind-the-ear part of the glasses with hardening plastic, and then paint the product black.
7. But what wizard without a magic wand? Take a regular wooden wand, apply glue from a gun diagonally to it. Let it dry. Cover the wand with silver or brown paint.
8. To complete the look, you can also add a broom.
