1. Indonesia
Indonesia is made up of thousands of volcanic islands, making it a paradise for ocean lovers and adventurers. There are plenty of diving spots to choose from, including the Gili Islands, Lembongan, and the Liberty Shipwrecks in Bali. Komodo, Alor, and Lembeh in Sulawesi are other great dive sites in Indonesia. But the most famous dive site in Indonesia is Cape Kri in Raja Ampat. Here, you’ll see coral gardens like never before, with magnificent marine life including manta rays, sharks, barracudas, and giant trevally, as well as 374 different species of fish.
2. Malaysia
Two famous areas among divers in Malaysia are Mabul Island and Sipadan Island. Among the two, Barracuda Point on Sipadan Island is considered by many divers to be the best. It has a coral wall where sharks swim past and you are surrounded by barracudas. The 800-meter drop and sometimes strong currents make it an ideal diving spot. It offers a great opportunity to see a variety of marine life, as well as sharks. Another popular region of Micronesia among divers is the island of Yap.
4. Egyptian Red Sea
No diving list would be complete without the Egyptian Red Sea. Here you will find three popular dive sites: Thistlegorm, Shark & Yolanda Reef and Big Brother. At a maximum depth of 29 meters, the Cargo wreck, filled with motorbikes, train carriages and trucks, makes Thistlegorm famous. It is a popular night dive site and is also home to giant moray eels. Rich in anemones, Shark Reef is a mix of a drop-off and a shipwreck. Big Brother is a little more dangerous due to the wild and unpredictable currents. You will need experience to dive here. You can also try the Blue Hole in Dahab, one of the most dangerous dive sites, dive with El Bells into the Blue Hole.
5. Australia
The Great Barrier Reef is the world’s largest coral reef system, consisting of 900 islands and over 2,900 unique reefs. Cod Hole is a famous dive site on the Great Barrier Reef, just like the North Horn. You can spot potato groupers, whitetip reef sharks, and Napoleon fish. The visibility makes it an ideal spot for underwater photography. In Queensland, you will find Yongala, a 109-metre shipwreck, an ideal diving spot. Manta rays, tiger sharks, bull sharks, turtles, and incredible coral formations make this place quite popular. You can also try the famous Navy Pier, another great diving spot located in Western Australia.
6. Belize
A giant sea vortex off the coast of Belize, the Great Blue Hole has become quite famous among divers. This incredible hole is 143 meters deep and is home to many makos and sharks. The clear water provides excellent visibility. Fringed by coral reefs, the best time for diving is from April to June.
7. Hawaii
A night dive with manta rays in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii should be on your list if you want to experience something out of the ordinary. The currents here can be wild at times, you will have close encounters with large manta rays, and an incredible experience if you find a good day for your dive. Manta rays are attracted to plankton, which are attracted to lights set on the ocean floor.
8. Thailand
