New Year is a time of holidays and vacations. It applies not only to schoolchildren and students, but also to employees of medical institutions. Therefore, many are concerned about whether clinics work on holidays.
The start of the weekend in 2023 will be on December 31, and the last day of vacation will be January 9, 2025.
During the New Year holidays, the need for medical care increases, so most medical institutions will continue to operate. In 2025, the schedule will be slightly different from the usual. This time, adult and children's clinics will work differently.

The production calendar shows the work of clinics on holidays and regular days. It is a document that is approved by the government on an annual basis. Accordingly, each New Year the number of days off may change.
The document is reviewed in November or early December. As a rule, the first version is already approved and soon comes into official force. Thus, the work of clinics and medical institutions is regulated by the production calendar.
In 2025, the schedule of days off for clinics and medical institutions differs from 2022. Thus, the vacation will begin on December 31 and will continue until January 9. It will be 10 days - 1 day off more than the year before last.
How clinics operate during the holidays of 2025 worries many. Especially since the New Year holidays do not affect all budgetary institutions.
The following will operate in normal mode:
- ambulance;
- hospitals;
- hospitals.
Polyclinics will have reduced hours.
Government organizations will be off during the holidays. But not all health workers will be sent on vacation. Doctors and nurses will remain on duty in hospitals, and if a particular doctor is needed, he or she will be called to the institution.
As doctors say, there is more work around New Year than on non-holiday days. Therefore, medical organizations must continue their activities despite all the temptations.

Opening hours of adult clinics during holidays
How clinics operate during the New Year holidays in 2025 is determined not only by the production calendar, but also by Roszdravnadzor. In adult hospitals, several nurses will remain - to serve patients and clean the clinic - and a general practitioner. It is unlikely that it will be possible to conduct a comprehensive diagnosis during the holidays, but assistance will be provided if necessary.
On December 30, the last day before the holiday, the work schedule will not differ from the usual. Changes will affect December 31: a short schedule will be announced in the clinics, presumably from 9 am to 4 pm. The exact working hours are specified in your hospital.
The general day off will be on January 1, and from January 2 (and until the 6th), appointments will be held from 9 am to 4 pm. On January 7, doctors will rest, but general practitioners and nurses will remain.
Narrowly focused specialists will go on vacation:
- ENT;
- allergist;
- cardiologist;
- dermatologist;
- urologist;
- ophthalmologist.
The possibility of calling a doctor to your home will remain on working days. If necessary, you should call your hospital.
Opening hours of children's clinics during holidays
During the holidays, children's clinics will operate in almost the same mode as adult institutions. Nurses and pediatricians will remain. On New Year's Eve, children's hospitals will operate according to the weekend schedule. All doctors will return to the clinic on January 1 and 7.
How children's clinics work during holidays:
- December 30, the last day before the holiday, will be a normal working day.
- The following day will see the start of a short day, during which, for now, it is assumed that institutions will operate from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The schedule may vary in different areas, so it is best to check with your hospital for details.
- The same regime will be in place from January 2 to 6, and on the 1st and 7th the specialists will have a rest. However, the pediatrician on duty will remain at the clinic.
You can also call a doctor to your home during holidays.
Which medical institutions can I visit during the holidays?
In addition to state-owned clinics, other medical institutions will be open during the New Year:
- Dentistry. Dental offices will be open to provide special assistance. Information on where to go on holidays is available at the polyclinic information desk. At the same time, private, and sometimes even state, dental offices may operate. It is assumed that the New Year's schedule will be as follows - from 9 am to 4 pm.
- Trauma centers. They work even on holidays, and around the clock. There are plans to organize additional patient appointments if surgical care is needed. The working hours of children's trauma centers in large cities are from 9 am to 10 pm.
- Ophthalmologists. They will continue to work on New Year's Eve. Private clinics will conduct appointments from 9 am to 6 pm, at other times it is better to contact stationary points, doctors on duty.
- Gynecologists. For now, it is assumed that women's consultations will be held on a shortened schedule - from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. In small towns, there is still a possibility that women will have to go to inpatient departments for an examination by the doctor on duty.
- Ambulance. During holidays, the workload of the ambulance service increases several times, so you need to try to call medical staff as early as possible. No changes or restrictions in the work of the ambulance service are planned.
The same applies to pharmacies. Organizations will work seven days a week and dispense medications according to the same schedule as on other days.
Work of polyclinics in different regions of the Russian Federation
During the holiday period, emergency services will operate as usual. At the same time, in the regions, citizens will be able to contact the on-duty doctor - a therapist - and some specialists in their area. The schedule of baby food points will also not differ from the old one. Products will be immediately issued in the required volume.
In Moscow and St. Petersburg, changes to the working hours during holiday weekends are being considered in the near future. They will come into force in 2025. Thus, you can contact the doctor on duty until 6 pm. This will significantly reduce the load on emergency services and stationary points.
People suffering from chronic diseases should mark the calendar holidays in advance and contact their local clinic to find out where they can go if they feel worse, and whether specialists will be able to see patients on New Year's Eve.
In anticipation of the holiday, many admit that medical institutions will not work properly. However, the state takes care of the condition of its citizens and does everything possible so that people can receive the necessary help in time.
