Following the astonishing success of Beijing's Water Cube at the 2008 Summer Olympics, the water center was transformed into an incredible (and massive) indoor water park. The owners transformed the space into a fantasy world complete with slides, a lazy river, a wave pool, artificial jellyfish floating near the ceiling, and more. It's now the second-most visited water park in Beijing (after the Great Wall of China) and the largest water park in the world.
The structure, which occupies an area of 70 thousand square meters, has a special design. It uses durable elements that look like a crystal lattice of water bubbles. The building receives solar energy and uses it to heat water and rooms. The crystals have a reflective coating, which prevents the air from heating up to a level that is uncomfortable for people.
This Chinese water wonderland has about 10 different rides, including high-speed slides and a wave pool that simulates the ocean, which many Chinese visitors have never seen.
And the largest of the world's non-working water parks is the Japanese Ocean Dome. It is located on the island of Kyushu, and is under a giant dome (length 300 meters, width - 100 meters). For financial reasons (or, more simply, because of bankruptcy), the water park has been closed since 2007.
