Fuel consumption per 100 km is one of the most important indicators in a car, because many people buy a specific model precisely because of this data. Most manufacturers pay maximum attention to this indicator, and it is these companies that top our rating.
1. Citroen C3
A small French hatchback Citroen C3, with a 1.6 engine, which went on sale in 2017. It can produce 75 horsepower. In this configuration, the car spends only 3.1 liters of fuel. Naturally, only a manual gearbox is installed in a pair with it, which operates in five modes. The maximum from the model will be able to squeeze out 171 km / h, and acceleration to the 100 kilometers per hour mark on the speedometer will take you a little more than fifteen seconds.
Previous generations of this model also had low fuel consumption, and not only diesel units, but also petrol ones. For example, the 2013 version with a liter engine received a petrol consumption of only 4.2 liters, which is quite good for a fairly powerful family car.
2. Seat Leon
The creation of the Spanish auto industry, and more specifically - Seat Leon, released in 2012. This car is also a hatchback. It is equipped with a turbocharged unit, with a working volume of 1.6 liters. This installation is capable of developing power up to 90 horsepower. Like most economical cars, the gearbox here is manual, with five gears. Well, and the main indicator is 3.0 liters, which are spent on every hundred kilometers of the road in mixed driving mode. At the same time, the model can safely be called sports, since you can squeeze out of it a speed of 191 kilometers per hour, and accelerate to a hundred in just 10 seconds.
And its appearance is too aggressive, not corresponding to a light family car. This variant is also well equipped inside, which helps Leon easily compete in Europe with many other creations of more famous companies.
3. Ford Fiesta
Another hatchback, but already overseas – Ford Fiesta. The most economical version is the restyling of the sixth generation, with a 1.6 engine, developing 95 horsepower. Control is carried out by a manual transmission with five gears identical to previous representatives. This diesel car consumes only 2.9 liters of fuel.
It is not inferior to many petrol units in speed. The maximum speed here is limited to 180 kilometers per hour, and you will be able to conquer a hundred in 11.6 seconds. This model is usually chosen for the city, as it is equipped with a large number of different devices and functions that have a positive effect on comfort and safety. The car is also well controlled, which many users like to note in their reviews. But everyone loves it, of course, because of its low consumption.
4. Skoda Octavia
The next place goes to one of the oldest representatives – Skoda Octavia Greenline. The model begins its history in 1959, but the latest generation of 2017 appeared in this rating. Again, the model is equipped with a 1.6 unit, but with a larger number of horses than its competitors – 110. By the way, this is the only non-hatchback on the list, so to pull such a giant you need a lot of fuel... but no, it consumes only 2.8 liters of fuel.
The car is also one of the most environmentally friendly, having a small emission of carbon dioxide into the air. To reduce consumption, the designers applied many additional changes, such as special tires with low resistance, start-stop function and others. The car also stands out for its good speed indicators. You can squeeze out two hundred kilometers per hour here. A hundred is reached in 10.4 seconds.
5. Renault Clio
The best car in terms of fuel consumption in the city, but only sixth in combined mode is the Renault Clio. As usual, the rating includes the latest modification of the model, which went on sale in 2016. The car received a 1.5-liter turbocharged unit, producing 75 horsepower. The transmission used is a classic mechanics with five gears. Here, the engine's appetite is 3.4 liters of fuel in the city and 2.7 liters in combined mode.
The car does not stand out for its speed data, since the designers did not perceive these indicators as fundamental. Their main task was to create a version that everyone could afford to maintain. And they succeeded, because the car is very popular in many countries of the world. At the same time, the model is beautifully designed both externally and internally, and the trunk volume is enough for anyone.
6. Kia Rio CRDi
The second half of the list is opened by the only representative of the eastern market - Kia Rio CRDi. The engine capacity in this version is only 1.1 liters, but it received a power of as much as 75 horses. As for the gearbox, a six-speed manual is used here. The car does not shine with speed indicators, but they took care of the level of comfort here, for which, however, you will have to pay a little extra, because the basic version does not even have air conditioning. But for a small surcharge, you get the ideal transport for city trips and travel, since the trunk here is quite roomy, and if you remove the back row of seats, its volume increases almost four times.
Well, and the most interesting indicator - in the city the model spends 3.6 liters, but on average this mark is kept at 2.6 liters. A great option for those who want a stylish car with a low cost of maintenance.
7. Volkswagen Golf
In the next position, oddly enough, is one of the most famous cars - Volkswagen Golf. A special version of this model - BlueMotion was developed specifically to compete with everyone in terms of consumption. This modification is already the seventh generation of the famous car. The car was equipped with a 1.4-liter turbodiesel, producing as much as 125 horsepower.
In addition to excellent control, high level of comfort, low consumption, the buyer will also get excellent acceleration. Few economical cars can boast reaching one hundred kilometers per hour in just 9.5 seconds. The gearbox here is also mechanical, six-speed.
The engine consumes 2.6 liters of fuel in normal mode according to the passport. But this model is much more expensive than other representatives, so it will take twice as long to recoup the cost of the car with fuel economy.
8. Vauxhall Corsa
British Vauxhall Corsa. It can be safely called a small car, since the engine capacity here is only 1.3 liters. This unit can develop 75 horsepower. The model is not aimed at fast driving at all, but its level of comfort is simply off the charts. This transport was created for people who need a car only for driving, and not for some kind of "show-off".
Reliable, roomy, although the dimensions are quite small. Three adults can easily fit in the back seats, and none of them will experience discomfort. However, the car is not particularly distributed around the world and is actively used only in the British Isles. In other countries, you can see it extremely rarely. The consumption of this configuration is 2.6 liters.
9. Peugeot 307
Another Frenchman, the second-generation Peugeot 307, was just a little short of the lead. Surprisingly, it also lost to its compatriot. This car is equipped with a 1.6 engine paired with a six-speed manual transmission. All this together gives a power of up to 92 horsepower. This model does not particularly stand out in terms of speed, but in terms of equipment it is far ahead of many competitors.
For a relatively small price, you will get almost everything you need for a comfortable and pleasant ride in any conditions. There will never be any extraneous noise, rarely will something break, everything will always turn on the first time. Although the car is small, its capacity is amazing. It can be increased by removing the rear row of seats. Almost anyone can maintain the model, as it consumes only 2.5 liters of diesel fuel.
10. Peugeot 208
Another Peugeot, this time the 208, has rightfully earned the title of "Most Economical Car". It is equipped with a 1.6 unit, which produces less power than the previous candidate - 75 horsepower, but has much better speed indicators. This version is also equipped with a five-speed, not a six-speed gearbox, which is, of course, manual. This is due to the fact that this model has smaller dimensions.
But the most important thing here is the consumption rate. To prove and check how small it is, a special test was conducted. 43 liters of diesel fuel were poured into the car's tank. With this amount, the car was able to travel a little more than two thousand kilometers. As a result, it was experimentally found out that this car spends only 2 liters of fuel for every hundred kilometers. In addition, excellent results were shown in terms of environmental friendliness. Here, this figure is equal to 79 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometer. Among all the options presented in this list, this value is the lowest.
The model was not deprived of comfort either. The Peugeot 208 received almost the same functions as the 308, only its cost is much lower. It can be safely stated that in many respects this car simply has no competitors among the range of publicly available cars, and it is unlikely that they will appear in the near future.
11. Smart Fortwo
The new Smart hatchbacks are not only fashionable, beautiful and modern, but also economical. The appetite of the city baby with a 1.0-liter gasoline engine is limited to 4.2 liters per hundred. At the same time, there is 71 horsepower under the hood. In addition, there is a diesel modification of the small car called CDI, which is considered the most "diet" car in Britain. 13. Skoda Fabia
If for some reason you don't like the Volkswagen Polo, there is an alternative that has retained all the advantages of the above-mentioned car, but with its own character and design. Last year, Skoda announced that it intended to leave the usual budget class and began to add a little "shine" to its models. Thus, the new generation of Skoda Fabia has, for example, an elegant cut of headlights and taillights in the style of Bohemian glass. At the same time, the car is made on the same platform as the Volkswagen Polo. Under the hood is the same 1.2-liter TSI engine, but with 88 hp. 14. Hyundai i20
The new Hyundai i20, which replaced the Getz model, which was quite popular with us, also settled in the ranking of the most economical cars in Ukraine. Despite the fact that the car has a fairly wide range of power plants, I would like to note the diesel version of the hatchback, which provides for the presence of a 1.4-liter engine of the CRDi family. The power of the plant is 90 horsepower, and the appetite is 4.3 liters per 100 km.
15. Skoda Rapid
Being a direct relative of the Volkswagen Polo Sedan, the Skoda Rapid, which has taken root quite well in the Ukrainian market, also managed to please with its economy. The declared consumption rate of the diesel modification with the same TDI engine with a volume of 1.6 liters and a power of 103 hp is 4.4 liters per hundred. At the same time, while the car was on the AUTO.RIA test drive, the consumption never exceeded 5.0 l/100 km.
16. Renault Logan
The real hard worker Renault Logan is on the last line of our rating, but nevertheless, the car's fuel consumption figures are no less impressive. And again, I would like to note the diesel version. While in the combined cycle, petrol modifications require 6.2 ... 7.3 and even 8.1 liters, Logan on heavy fuel will get by with only 4.5 liters for every hundred kilometers traveled.
17. Citroen C1
One of the first cars in terms of economy is the Citroen C1. Its consumption in city traffic is five and a half liters. Despite the fact that this is a French brand, these cars are assembled in the Czech Republic.

This is one of the main representatives of hybrid cars. Fuel consumption from 5.5 to 8.0 liters per 100 km. In the standard version, the electric battery is charged from the engine and during braking. However, in the new assembly, it became possible to charge from the network and drive only on electric traction. The trunk volume is 443 liters. 24. BMW i3
Unlike most modern cars, the BMW i3 was developed from scratch. No existing car was taken as a basis. Like the Toyota Prius, some versions of the BMW i3 can be charged from the network.
