Nails are the beauty and pride of not only women, but also men who care about their appearance. There are many techniques for building up, strengthening and decorating nails.
But some people take their love for nails too far. And I think you'll agree with this statement after looking at the videos and photos of the longest nails in the world.
7. Wen Zhang
The total length of the nails is unknown.
The longest nail is 35 cm.
Some people grow the longest nails for fame, but this Chinese gentleman had a different goal. He wanted to curb his pugnacious nature, and because of this, he stopped cutting his nails. Try clenching your hand into a fist with such a keratin "macaroni" growing from your finger.
Jean's idea bore fruit. He became known not as the main troublemaker in the area, but as an eccentric, but respected person.
6. Louise Hollis
The total length of the nails is 2.5 meters.
The longest nail is 24 cm.
The longest nails in the world don't have to be on your fingers. Meet Louise Hollis, and she has the longest toenails. As we all know, beauty requires sacrifice, and in order to be able to walk rather than be in a wheelchair, Louise is forced to wear open-toed shoes and very high heels.
After participating in the TV show "Have You Seen This?" she received special boots without socks and with zippers in the front. Now her feet (and most importantly, her nails) at least don't freeze in the winter.
5. Loretta Adams
The total length of the nails is 3.81 meters.
The longest nail is 89 cm.
The longest nails in the world look very impressive in the photo. However, living with them day after day, having difficulty with such usual things as eating, washing dishes and taking a bath is below average pleasure.
Apparently, Loretta Adams thought the same thing, and one day she took it upon herself to cut her nails and claws.
4. Chris "Countess" Walton
The total length of the nails is 7.3 meters.
The longest nail is 91 cm.
In 2011, this American singer was named by the Guinness Book of Records as the woman with the longest nails in the world.
Christina Walton didn't set out to get her nails extended until they started growing on their own. "One day I look down and they're already nine inches long!" she said. Though inches are nothing compared to her current nail lengths, which have grown to over 10 feet on one hand and 12 feet on the other.
According to Chris, many people look at her nails with admiration and curiosity, but there are also those who think her nails resemble a tangle of snakes. What do you think her nails look like?
3. Ayanna Williams
The total length of the nails is 5.7 meters.
The longest nail is 63 cm.
The Houston, Texas nail salon owner is one of the most famous women not only in her state, but in the United States. And it's easy to see why when you look at the photo of her nails. It took her 23 years to grow them.
Williams uses each of her nails as a platform for design experiments. Just imagine how the most beautiful manicure of 2019 would look on super-long nails!
In 2018, Guinness World Records officially recognized Ayanna as the holder of the world record for "longest fingernails on a pair of (female) hands" after measuring their combined length at 576.4 cm (18 ft 10.9 in). She beat the previous title holder, Chris Walton, whose combined length was 731.4 cm (23 ft 11 in). However, Walton has trimmed her nails since her previous measurement.
In an interview with the Daily Mail, the owner of the longest fingernails admitted that painting her nails can take up to a week. And performing the simplest tasks, such as buttoning jeans, turns into torture. But what won't you do for fame?
Williams uses a brush and antibacterial soap to clean her fingers daily, and also applies hardener and acrylic to prevent her nails from breaking.
For Williams, growing her nails isn't just a quest for public recognition, but also a way to prove to her children that "anything they want to achieve can be done."
2. Lee Redmond
The total length of the nails is 8.5 meters.
The longest nail is 89 cm.
This Salt Lake City old lady spent 30 years getting her nails done. She held the Guinness World Record for the longest nails. However, in 2009, Redmond was in a car accident, which caused her nails to break.
"Losing my nails was the most dramatic thing that happened in my life," Lee admitted in an interview.
Redmond also said she has no plans to grow her nails because she doesn't think she has three more decades to do so. Looking at the positives of losing her huge nails, Redmond acknowledged that she has found it easier to perform everyday tasks.
1. Shridhar Chillal
Total length of nails: 909.6 cm.
The longest nail is 197.8 cm.
Until the summer of 2018, the title of "man with the longest nails" belonged to an Indian man. When you add up the length of each nail on Sridhar's left hand, their total length is almost 10 meters (or about the length of two cars)!
The man stopped cutting the nails on his left hand in 1952 and grew them for over 60 years. And it wasn't easy physically. Chillal couldn't sleep properly, he had to get up every half hour to move his hand to the other side of the bed because his nails were extremely brittle.
He also had a hard time finding a steady job. Who wants to hire someone who can only use one hand? However, Chillal's unusual choice did not stop him from getting married and having two children.
Finally, after 66 years, Sridhar Chillal, who is now 82, finally cut his nails in a special ceremony in New York. If you are ever in the city, you can see his nails at the Robert Ripley's Believe It or Not exhibit.
The longest nails in history
Until 2009, the record holder for the longest nails was American Melvin Booth. This former military man carefully carried his 9.85-meter nails throughout his life, enjoying the attention and shock of those around him.
He even met Lee Redmond, another “extreme nail wearer,” one day. The two took a walk, carefully and with considerable effort carrying their treasures. Curiously, Redmond’s nails were straight, while Booth’s were strongly curled, resembling spirals.
In 2009, 61-year-old Booth died.
Interesting facts about nails
- Nails are made of a tough, protective protein called keratin. This is the same protein found in our hair and the top layer of skin.
- Nails grow slowly - about 2.5 mm per month. It is believed that nails may grow faster in the summer because we get more vitamin D and tend to drink more water, which promotes healthy nail growth.
- If you lose a nail, it can take 3 to 6 months for a new one to grow.
- Although your nails grow at different rates on each finger, the rate does not change.
- Toenails grow slower than fingernails.
- The beginning of your nails is actually under the skin up to the first knuckle.
- It's still a mystery why humans have nails. It may be because they help protect the tips of our fingers and toes, and they can also be used as tools to, for example, quickly remove a splinter.
